Group Coaching
Why group coaching?
Group coaching is useful as part of an individual coaching program, or as a dedicated team coaching activity.
Group coaching (or leadership development programs) are based on the principles and practices of Adaptive Leadership.
Adaptive Leadership is a personal, stimulating, and challenging approach to leadership coaching that builds capacity for people to act skillfully, confidently and courageously when exercising leadership. It challenges people to look beyond quick-fix, short-term solutions, blaming and avoidance behaviours and examines the competing commentaries, commitments and the complexities being faced.
Apprehension and fear often restrict people from fully embracing leadership roles and responsibilities, Adaptive Leadership, while exploring a wide range of leadership strategies and practices also acknowledges the risks associated with exercising leadership and supports people to navigate their challenges and maximise their opportunities, and stay alive!
What informs group coaching?
- Adaptive Leadership uses complexity theory, critical thinking and iterative learning models to underpin its practices.
- Discuss leadership as something people do, not a position they hold or who they are. The program offers models and approaches for people to confidently accept leadership responsibility.
- The coaching work draws on real life challenges and situations provided by program participants themselves.
- However unwittingly, we always contribute something to the situations we face so self-awareness and reflection are critical program elements.
- The program aims to create insight and provide opportunities for participants to practice what they are learning.
- Participants receive individual coaching designed to enhance the group coaching. These sessions include an agreed personality, communication or personal preference assessment.
- The group practices consultative conversations, a critical thinking and problem-solving technique for teams. It transforms group/team dynamics by transforming their communication styles and competencies.
- Group Coaching offers teams a shared language and shared practices to work productively and safely together as colleagues and as leaders.
